I have chosen this particular example of a refurbishment project above others because it pushed all of us involved outside our comfort zones but the end result was well worth it, as you can see in the “before” and the “after” photos.
This is the last big project of the several projects we have done in this house, and over the years the house has been totally refurbished using the same builder and the results have always been excellent…
Read More »Ros and I have worked together for 8 years. She bought an apartment in the village in 2008 and asked me to manage it for her and we embarked on a refurbishment project in 2008 encompassing a new floor, redesigned kitchen, new bathroom, and new furnishings. I continue to manage the house for her in terms of ongoing maintenance and managing the letting of the apartment to holiday makers. I also maintain a record of income/expenses to declare to the Spanish authorities…
Read More »Cortijo Canada del Reguero is a beautiful cortijo (farmhouse) slightly off the beaten track above Capileira with a large swimming pool and gardens. My work for the owners is fairly straightforward, maintenance and preparation for holiday lets. This was the first property I managed with a swimming pool, and a natural water supply, both of which can throw up their own challenges.
I have worked for Sonia for almost 2 years now, and the brief with this house is also quite straightforward, it is a large 5 bedroom house (huge in fact) that used to be the town hall for the village, and is co-owned by Sonia, her husband and another Spanish couple. It is generally rented out for long weekends mostly to Spanish clients (for Spanish Puente weekends – bank holidays). I organise cleaning and preparation of the house for the guests.
Christine spends her time between the Netherlands, other parts of Spain and Capilerilla. She has a sweet cortijo with swimming pool, and most clients are Dutch or English. My brief for Christine is preparation of the house and pool for her guests. I have been working for her since 2011.
I have been managing Casa Murphy for quite a while! We have been through ups and downs, water ingress issues, neighbours smoking chimneys filtering through, just to mention a couple of things. It is now one of the most popular rental houses in the village, it’s very spacious light and airy and appeals to both Spanish and Northern European and beyond guests. Our current challenge is to identify more efficient methods of heating the hot water and running the central heating.
I met Julia in 2014 when she was staying in an apartment I manage in the village, and last year we discussed the feasibility of having a ‘running retreat’ in the village in July 2016. I have organised hotels for the participants, airport transfers and activities for them to do when they are not running with Julia!
